FireWedge · Qualified Fire Door Installer & Surveyor · DJR Joinery Ltd
I've spent years fitting and maintaining fire doors. Hundreds of doorsets across housing associations, commercial buildings, public sector sites. I know what a compliant installation looks like, I know what the documentation should say, and I know what gets picked up when an auditor walks through the door.
There was always a grey area. The packing wedge.
Most doorset manufacturers I've worked with specified minimum timber density for the packers — it was written clearly in their installation guidance. But when it came to actually proving that the wedges I was using met that density? Nothing. Nobody could give me a Certificate of Conformity. Nobody could give me a batch reference. Nobody could tell me where the timber came from or whether it had ever been tested.
Sourcing wedges was a constant frustration. Timber merchants, joinery suppliers and online supply was inconsistent, quality was variable, and there was simply no go-to branded company that existed to serve the fire door installation industry specifically. After BS 8214:2026 came into force I decided to fix it myself.
"Nobody could give me a Certificate of Conformity. Nobody could give me a batch reference."
Danny Renvoize, Founder
The new standard is clear. Every component in a fire door installation needs to be evidenced. The Building Safety Act is clear. The golden thread of information must be maintained for the lifetime of the building. The industry is clear. Documentation is no longer optional.
But nobody was making a packing wedge you could actually document. There was no recognised brand. No dedicated manufacturer. No consistent supply chain built specifically for fire door installation. Just a fragmented collection of merchants selling generic timber wedges with no traceability, no testing, and no documentation.
So I set up FireWedge — the UK's first dedicated manufacturer of hardwood packing wedges built specifically for fire door installation, with independent UKAS density verification on every batch and a Certificate of Conformity in every single pack.
Not a generic timber product repurposed for fire doors. Not a datasheet with a density claim and no proof. A purpose-built, independently verified, fully documented component — made by someone who has used packing wedges on every job they've ever done and knows exactly what the industry needs.

The values that define military service — integrity, precision, attention to detail, doing the job properly the first time — are the same values that define how I run FireWedge. Every batch tested. Every pack certified. No shortcuts. No compromises.
FireWedge uses timber. That comes with a responsibility.

A timber business that gives back to the forests that make it possible. That matters to me personally and it's written into how this business operates — not as a marketing exercise, but as a genuine commitment.
