FireWedge · Qualified Fire Door Installer & Surveyor · DJR Joinery Ltd

I've spent years fitting and maintaining fire doors. Hundreds of doorsets across housing associations, commercial buildings, public sector sites. I know what a compliant installation looks like, I know what the documentation should say, and I know what gets picked up when an auditor walks through the door.

There was always a grey area. The packing wedge.

Most doorset manufacturers I've worked with specified minimum timber density for the packers — it was written clearly in their installation guidance. But when it came to actually proving that the wedges I was using met that density? Nothing. Nobody could give me a Certificate of Conformity. Nobody could give me a batch reference. Nobody could tell me where the timber came from or whether it had ever been tested.

Sourcing wedges was a constant frustration. Timber merchants, joinery suppliers and online supply was inconsistent, quality was variable, and there was simply no go-to branded company that existed to serve the fire door installation industry specifically. After BS 8214:2026 came into force I decided to fix it myself.

"Nobody could give me a Certificate of Conformity. Nobody could give me a batch reference."

The reason

Why I built FireWedge

The new standard is clear. Every component in a fire door installation needs to be evidenced. The Building Safety Act is clear. The golden thread of information must be maintained for the lifetime of the building. The industry is clear. Documentation is no longer optional.

But nobody was making a packing wedge you could actually document. There was no recognised brand. No dedicated manufacturer. No consistent supply chain built specifically for fire door installation. Just a fragmented collection of merchants selling generic timber wedges with no traceability, no testing, and no documentation.

So I set up FireWedge — the UK's first dedicated manufacturer of hardwood packing wedges built specifically for fire door installation, with independent UKAS density verification on every batch and a Certificate of Conformity in every single pack.

Not a generic timber product repurposed for fire doors. Not a datasheet with a density claim and no proof. A purpose-built, independently verified, fully documented component — made by someone who has used packing wedges on every job they've ever done and knows exactly what the industry needs.

The difference

What makes FireWedge different

I test every batch

Every batch of Beech and Sapele timber is density tested to BS EN 323 by a UKAS-accredited laboratory before it leaves the workshop.

I document everything

Every pack includes a batch-specific Certificate of Conformity with the density result, the testing body, the UKAS accreditation number, and a reference to BS 8214:2026.

I understand your job

I'm a qualified fire door installer and surveyor who built this specifically because I couldn't find it anywhere else. I know what you need on site and what an auditor looks for.

Consistent, reliable supply

Same species, same dimensions, same verified density — batch after batch. No hunting around. No inconsistent quality. Reorder at the scan of a QR code.

I stand behind every pack

My name is on this business. My reputation is behind every Certificate of Conformity I issue. When you use FireWedge you're buying from someone who installs and surveys fire doors for a living.

"My name is on this business. My reputation is behind every Certificate of Conformity I issue."

Sustainability

Timber used.
Trees replaced.

FireWedge uses timber. That comes with a responsibility.

Every single order placed on firewedgesdirect.com plants one tree — verified and monitored through our partnership with Treeapp, a certified B Corp operating planting programmes across 20+ countries. Native species. Satellite verified. Permanently tracked.

A timber business that gives back to the forests that make it possible. That matters to me personally and it's written into how this business operates — not as a marketing exercise, but as a genuine commitment.
